My SPFX Final Project!

As promised, I'm excited to share with you all my Special Effects 201 class final project! This was my last day in the class and it was quite hectic as you can imagine and we were given two hours to complete our characters before they were photographed. As I look back at these photos there are so many things I wished I would've done, but I'm still very proud of my creation! So I'm pleased to present my creature sea siren :)

MUA: Julie Curl Photographer: Derek Athen Model: Brittany Durment

I was very pleased with design and concept, oh and of course with the photos as well! My model and fellow make-up artist, Brittany Durment (follow her on IG: MuahbyBrittArtistry) was amazing!

Here are some of the behind the scenes work that went into creating my creature sea siren!

Sculpting the scales with a fellow MUA!

To create the scales the first thing that had to be done was sculpt them out on clay, then stipple some mold rubber latex on top; depending on the thickness desired will determine how many layers of latex needs to be applied. I used 4-5 layers for mine.

The end result!
Test make-up!

This piece had to be the most time consuming! I took a generic foam latex brow piece and individually added crystals to it. I think out of everything this piece is the one I'm most proud of!
It was definitely worth all the long hours getting these pieces ready to go and finally see my character come to life. If you guys are interested in seeing more of my work you can follow me on instagram @waveybrushartistry and I'll leave a link to my website right after I'm done working out the kinks!
Until next time, sending all my love to my fellow make-up connoisseurs!

My PHAMExpo 2014 Experience

This year was my first time attending PHAMExpo and it was quite the experience! For those of you who never attended PHAME it's a professional hair and make up expo where professionals, students, and just anyone interested in hair and make up gather. It's a great way to see brands and people in the industry!
When I first walked in I didn't know what to expect seeing it was my first expo ever, and boy was I in heaven! The energy and people inside were amazing! You had all sorts of brands with the products they offer to even schools show casing what they're all about and some students doing make up right then and there!

The atmosphere was simply amazing. You had brands like Makeup Geek, Lime Crime, Real Techniques, Sauce Box (And may I add the girls working there were so kind!), just to name a few.

Overall my experience was magical! I was lucky enough to meet Doe Deere, creator/founder of LimeCrime, and the line to purchase their products was insane, but totally worth the wait!

And of course, I couldn't help but pick up a few things from Lime Crime!

I would have to say the highlight of the day was meeting Sam and Nick from Pixiwoo! They were actually the first people I started watching on youtube and I've learned so much from their videos. They are both even more beautiful in person and just the loveliest people I've had the pleasure of meeting.

I did a little shopping while I was there, I mean how can you not? So I'll have another blog post of the things I hauled at PHAMExpo!

If you're ever in the Los Angeles area when PHAMExpo is around, I definitely recommend you check it out! It's a great time and a great experience to have.

Until next time, sending all my love to my fellow makeup connoisseurs! xo

In The Tropics Palette

I don't know about you, but with the warmer weather upon us I tend to gravitate towards shimmery eye shadows. There's nothing better than a nice shimmery eye look for summer and this In The Tropics palette by Sephora gives you many options to choose from!

Inside this palette contains 10 beautiful shimmery shades that can be used either wet or dry. If you want to intensify the color I would suggest using them wet! Now I must admit, some of the shades are more pigmented than others, but what I like about them is you can build up the color intensity by layering the color. The eye shadows also wear quite nicely even on my oily lids which is something I struggle with when it comes to shimmery shades.

There honestly isn't one shade in the palette I wouldn't wear. I was quite impressed with these eye shadows that I'm interested in checking out other Moonshadow baked palettes that Sephora offers!

Until next time, sending all my love to all my fellow make up connoisseurs out there!

Color Me Orange!

With warmer weather we've been getting out here in Southern California, and with the sun beaming out, I love to pull out my bright lipsticks! And one color I've been constantly reaching for is orange, and I'd like to share with you some of my favorites.

Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm in the shade Mischievous
Mischievous is a nice pale orange, and I can't get enough of these things! The formula is semi-mate, but they feel really comfortable on the lips.

E.L.F Moisturizing Lipstick in Coral Cutie
I really enjoy E.L.F lipsticks, not only are they super affordable, but they are so good in formulation as well. Like the name suggests they are moisturizing and this color is more on the sheer side, but can be built up if needed.

Wet N Wild MegaLast Lipcolor in 24 Carrot Gold
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the goodness that is Wet n Wild? Well, they definitely deserve it cos their lipsticks are amazing and for the price, I'm a happy camper! 24 Carrot Gold is a beautiful in between orange, not too pale, but not too dark either. It's my perfect in between and pulls out my inner bunny!

Wet N Wild MegaLast Lipcolor in Purty Persimmon/ Reflect Orange
Can you tell I love Wet N Wild? This color is more on the Red-Orange, but orange nonetheless.
I love wearing this color on days where I don't feel like wearing red, but still want that statement lip!

NYX Matte Lipstick in Indie Flick
Oh, Indie Flick, how you stole my heart! I love all of NYX Matte Lipsticks, the formula is great! They stay on and they're not drying, so you get the best of both worlds. Indie Flick is a beautiful orange and one of the first orange lipsticks I've tried, and boy it did not disappoint!

Kat Von D Everlasting Love Liquid Lipstick in A-Go-Go
Now this may sound strange, but I love wearing this color because it reminds me of carrots! I love wearing this when I don't really want to fuss about it moving around. I adore this shade and is defiantly for those who are a little more daring cos it is bright!

Prestige Lipliner in Poppy
I know what you're thinking, this isn't exactly a lipstick and you're right. But this lipliner feels like a lipstick and it lasts, so the fact that it's a lipliner doesn't bother me. This is actually my first Prestige lipliner and I have to say, where has this been all my life? It's not drying, nor does it drag on the lips! I love this color its a nice red-orange and super comfortable to wear and underneath my lipstick it makes it last for AGES! I literally wore this to dinner and it did not budge; that's a total winner in my book.

Well, that concludes my favorite orange lipsticks!
I hope you guys found it helpful for the next time you're shopping around for orange lipsticks!

Until next time, I send my love to all you makeup connoisseurs out there!

When Broken Hearts Need Mending;

Going through break-ups can be hard, and I've found that out recently. You always hear about those "bad break-ups" and I never experienced one, until recently... The most I can say is that they hurt -a lot- but you probably didn't need me to tell you that! In my case, I had a lot of downs and one thing that seemed to cheer me up was make-up - go figure!

I went into Sephora and did a little retail therapy. One of the items I picked up was Make Up Forever Aqua Brow.

I've never been one to venture out into any product like this before, I just simply fill in my brows with a little eye shadow, and viola- done. I can honestly say that this product was in fact life changing! It's a gel like consistency that is WATER-PROOF! Now I'm one of those people who forgets they have anything on their brows, or face for that matter, and I tend to touch or scratch my eyebrows, and this product does NOT budge! I also have dry patches around my eyebrow area and this product does not seem to irritate my skin; bonus!
You only need a little bit of this product, and I mean only a pea sized amount if that, and it goes a long way.
What I really like about this product is the fact that it looks n a t u r a l.

The second item I picked up was a liquid lipstick. Now I don't know about you, but a nice BOLD lipstick can instantly change my mood! Feeling sick, throw on little lipstick. Feeling down, lipstick equals an instant pick me up. Well, you get the point.

(Please excuse the awkward arm swatch!)

Picking a lipstick can be daunting with all the different shades, textures, finishes, and not to mention if its bold the constant maintenance. For my taste I frequently go for matte finishes because of their longevity, so I opted for Kat Von D's Everlasting Love Liquid Lipstick in the shade A-Go-Go, which is a beautiful orange!

I do own a few other shades from this line, and to be honest the formula is not my favorite and here's why:
  • They are drying, but that's expected from a matte lipstick
  • I only get a few hours of wear before I have to completely take it off and reapply because my lips start to look too dry
Aside from those two things I do like them. They are EXTREMELY pigmented and easy to apply! You don't necessary need a lip liner to go along with them, which is great if you're lazy like me and don't always use lip liners, but like I said it's not a necessity with these bad boys!

Overall, I was very satisfied with these two purchases and I would highly recommend them to any of you who are looking to try a little something new!
